People never believe my age when I tell them. Others think I am joking. It is always fun for me when I see the reaction on people’s faces when I tell them my age. What is even more fun is when I get asked for my ID at a restaurant when I order some alcohol.
True, I do have good genes. However, no amount of genetics will help you if you do not take care of yourself. It is the number one rule when it comes to looking younger. Unfortunately, it is the most forgotten rule when it comes to self care. We think people in Hollywood look good because they have money.
While it is true that money can buy you some really good products, for the most part if you just know what to do and what is important you do not have to be filthy rich to look even better than the Hollywood stars. Moreover, if you do not want to resort to plastic surgery, then you need to know what do to in order to keep your skin looking young for as long as you can.
While genetics do play a role, knowing how to care for your skin makes the biggest difference in the long run.
You will not believe how often I meet people who are my age but they look over ten years older. I wish I could post a picture I have of a woman and I where the difference is so drastic you could think she was my mother. In fact, she is the same age as me and we were born just a couple of months apart.
What is the biggest cause of that, you ask? Self care. She does not know or does not use the products available that will protect her skin and make her look younger. I wish there was a way for those of us who know how to care for our necks to really share our knowledge with those who do not. I hope with this post to help you guys out so that you can start caring for yourself and keep your youth longer.
So what goes into our aging process? Let us take a look at that first before we go into the details of how to keep your neck looking younger for many years to come.
There are many factors that contribute to why we all age at different speeds. However, with proper care that process can be controlled or at least well managed so that you look your best.
Genetics is one of the biggest contributors to how we age. The old saying of ‘look at a woman’s mother to see how she will look when she is older’ is very much true. Not only is it true psychologically because we tend to imitate our parents, but it also carries genetics truth.
Your mother has passed her genes to you. If you want to know how you will look at her age without any care (or with care if your mother takes care of herself well) then just take a look at your sweet mommy and you will get a good picture.
Another part is skin damage. One of the worst things you can do to yourself is tanning salons. I remember in high school there was a very popular girl who was considered the beauty of the high school. She loved tanning. Granted, they did make her look fabulous but at what cost.
While tanning does accentuate your skin glow it is only for a short time while you are young. If you looked at her by the end of the four years of high school she literally looked like she was in her late twenties while we all still looked like kids. Tanning is your worst enemy when it comes to aging skin.
Tanning will literally destroy your skin and make you age so much faster. Not only that but it contributes to serious skin conditions and serious skin damage that you will have to live with for the rest of your life. There are products that will help manage it and help you to look better, but it is much easier to work with an undamaged canvas.
Tanning is one of your skin's worst enemies. It will make you age twice as fast if not faster, and can potentially cause you to have many serious skin illnesses and damaging consequences. It is also proven to lead to skin cancer.
However, how many of us can truly say that we have preserved our skin every day of our lives since puberty? Not very many. And even those of us who have started taking care of our skin since hormones kicked in, we still have missed days or weeks or months on end and just relied on luck.
If we instill in our children the knowledge and proper care for skin as much as we do with other body parts like teeth brushing and hair washing, then our kids will have a better chance at looking younger for longer. But, let us talk about us. This post is for those of us who need help and knowledge now and mostly for ourselves.
Another major contributor to our skin aging process is the amount of time we spend outside in the sun. If you love the sun, you probably know what I mean. Every time we spend time outside, we can see the negative results on our skin.
Try to limit your sun exposure as much as you can. It will pay off greatly in the long run.
Some sun damage results are pretty obvious such as sunburn, while others are less noticeable like skin puffiness and redness. In most cases, we can see the sun damage even after spending a couple of hours in the sun. Even in the shade, the sun still gets you. Did you know that even when it is cloudy, the sun still gets you?
There are a few major ways we can protect our skin from the damaging sun. The biggest one I will discuss below. The other pretty obvious one is to limit our sun exposure. While it is difficult for those of us who love to raise our faces up to the sun, close our eyes and envision ourselves in Hawaii on the beach… it is important to limit our sun exposure for the sake of our youth.
Our skin will thank us in the future. And, we will thank ourselves when our contemporaries all look at least twice as old as we are while all being the same age as us. I face that everyday. And it makes me stay away from the sun more no matter how much I love its warm yellow hues.
So What are the Neck Skincare Products that Help Preserve Youthfulness?
Now that I have covered the biggest factors that you want to know in order to preserve your youthfulness, we can move on to the other factors – skincare products. There are a million and one products out there that promise you miracle results. Please know one thing: there is no miracle solution unless you go to a plastic surgeon.
Even then, please know that there is not much plastic surgery that can be done on your neck once it has aged. The best thing you can do for your neck is to start taking care of it now. The sooner you start, the sooner you will be able to start working on preserving your neck’s youthfulness. You will start with what you have, but at least you will be in control from there on.
There is no magic solution, unfortunately. I speak from knowledge I have gained from my cosmetologist and from personal research and experience. However, do not give up. IF your neck is in need of some serious help, there are ways. Let me know and I will see if I can do more personalized advice specific for your case. The information below will be crucial for you to start caring for your neck today to keep it young tomorrow.
There is no magic solution. Starting today to care for your neck's skin is your best bet in keeping it looking young longer.
While it might seem pretty obvious, the first step in caring for your skin and for your neck are one and the same: sunscreen. You might say, duh, who doesn’t know that. You would be surprised that most women put so much effort into their face while forgetting about the neck.
Knowing and remembering to put the right sunscreen onto your face and your neck and decollete area every morning is crucial. Just like you brush your teeth and your hair every morning before you get out of the house you need to do the same for your neck.
Make it into a routine that you apply sunscreen to your face every day. And make it a routine that while you are applying sunscreen to your face you also apply it all over your neck and decollete area. Before you put clothes on. Just do that and you will save yourself from serious aging.
This is the best advice I have received from both my dermatologist and my cosmetologist. IF you do not forget to apply sunscreen, then you will cut your aging in half no matter what kind of genetics you have to work with.
This is the sunscreen that my dermatologist recommends. I use it every day on my face before applying make up. I also use it on my neck and hands. If my arms are going to be exposed, I use it on my arms, too. Same goes for my legs.
Sunscreen will keep your neck from aging and will help you to prevent cancer. Moreover, the right sunscreen will help you to protect your skin from photodamage.
Sun creates an enormous amount of damage and problems for the skin. With time, our skin shows the signs of photodamage. That is basically a fancy way of saying UV damage.
The face as well as the neck start showing the signs of photodamage by getting dark patches on the skin, wrinkles, broken capillaries, brown spots, uneven skin pigmentation, and in some cases rosacea. Do we need to mention cancer?
These are all serious cases of skin damage. By using the right sunscreen you can avoid most of these and prevent the really serious ones like cancer and rosacea. The sooner you start the sooner you can be in control of things that change your appearance and cause aging. The neck needs the same amount of care as the face does.
People take so much time caring for their faces while forgetting that the neck needs just as much if not more attention in order to stay looking young.
Another important factor is that the neck is usually much dryer than the face. Even if you have oily skin, you probably will notice (if you start to pay attention to it) that the neck is much dryer. I have oily skin and yet my neck is more like dry or combination skin type. That is because our neck produces less oil.
If you know this, that means that you can start to hydrate your neck just as much, if not more, than your face. This is also where sunscreen comes into play. Applying the sunscreen to your neck will preserve its natural oils much more and will prevent the damaging UV light from sucking out the moisture from your neck.
Let’s look at the daily neck care products that will help you to keep your neck looking younger. Please know that this is in addition to using sunscreen daily. Sunscreen is your best friend. However, these creams can also help you to keep your neck young longer.
Daily sunscreen use in addition to these creams will help you to make sure your neck is well taken care of and prepared to look its youngest for many years to come.
Below products are the ones that my dermatologist and cosmetologist recommend for your neck to make its youthfulness last longer. You want to make sure that you use the cream that you pick consistently just like you do with brushing your teeth – daily.
The best thing you can do is start today and keep the routine going. One of the best ways is to apply the product you choose just after you take your evening shower. That way your body is clean and ready for the product application. It is also easier to do it after a shower because you do not have any clothes on and in the way.
Janssen Cosmetics Firming Neck & Decollete Cream
If you do not have significant neck problems, this is the one I would recommend you start off with. Of course, I highly recommend that you consult your doctor prior to using any creams listed. This cream is great for neck that needs to keep its youthful look.
If your skin requires more help than preservation of the current state your neck is in, then the below listed creams are much stronger and better options. This Janssen cream is the one I use daily in order to maintain and preserve my current neck and decollete condition.
Revision Skincare Nectifirm Neck Cream
Nectifirm by Revision Skincare is one of the leading neck firming creams on the market. It is one of the top recommended neck creams by professionals and dermatologists. This luxury brand is well known among plastic surgeons and skincare professionals for delivering good results.
This neck cream from luxury skincare product line, StriVectin, promises to deliver neck firming results. This is another product that many dermatologists recommend. The reviews are very polarized with some people saying the results are significant while others say they saw no improvement at all. Sometimes it is just best to try for yourself and see if it works for you in your case.
The most important thing you can do for yourself now is to talk to your dermatologist and discuss the above listed products to see which one might be best for you. As always, I recommend that you talk with your doctor prior to starting any routine.
